One of the most rewarding moments as an editor is receiving a copy of a finished book from an author I worked with months ago. And it’s a special treat when the book is as enjoyable as Melissa Carter’s Facing Inward.
If I told you a book that this is a book about someone who has suffered from a life-threatening condition for much of her life, you might get the idea that it’s going to be a somber, difficult read.
But then if I showed you the name and logo the author has chosen for her publisher–Whanging Dude Publishing–you might have a different impression entirely. I think Melissa would be happy for you to lean into that impression.
Because this book is about a woman who has refused to let her life be defined by a life-threatening condition or limiting labels or rigid professional or personal categories. It’s a story about family and career and illness and recovery and losses and unexpected gains and all the incomprehensible moments that add up to a well-lived life.
And I’m grateful to have played a role in helping Melissa share her story with the world.
