To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, I’m welcoming a guest writer to this space!
Michael Ditmore is a professor, author, early American scholar, and my husband!
Everyone knows (or thinks they know) that we celebrate July 4 because that’s when the Declaration of Independence was finalized. But you might be surprised to learn it’s really not that simple. And also to learn how much was happening in the weeks leading up to July 4, 1776, that affected how the Declaration came to be.
Michael is explaining in daily countdowns what was happening from the first formal independence proposal on June 7, 1776, to July 4, 1776, and beyond. He has a tendency to offer LOTS of details in his writing, so there will be plenty of reading material for you to browse as you celebrate our country’s semiquincentennial!
